With a crazy weekend like Thanksgiving it is easy to miss some of the big things that happened last week in the Ocala Fitness world. Below we recap some of last week’s most looked at pages, and cover some things we might have missed.
The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, hosted by the Deluca Family YMCA, is known for being the most participated race in the area. This year was no different as over 1900 participants made it across the finish line before going home to big family dinners. Some of these racers then took out their racing shoes for a second time on Sunday and participated in the Space Coast Marathon and Half Marathon. Foot Locker South
While many Cross Country athletes have already called it a wrap, 3 exceptional athletes from Vanguard high school decided to extend their season and participate in the Foot Locker South Regional Cross Country Meet in Charlotte, North Carolina. Athletes from all over the Southeast travel to North Carolina with hopes of a top 10 finish in the seeded race as it earns them a trip to nationals.
In the girls seeded race, Elizabeth Mulford and Audrey Carpenter capped their high school careers on a high note. Elizabeth Mulford, the 3A State Champion, ran an 18:05 which earned her 32nd overall and was a 19 second PR. Elizabeth finished number 2 overall for Florida Athletes. Audrey Carpenter ran an 18:25, which was a 9 second PR and earned her 64th overall and number 6 for Floridians.
In the boys seeded race,Joey Fitzpatrick put an exclamation mark on what has been a phenomenal freshmen season. Joey 62nd overall in a very fast time of 15:48. Although Joey didn’t set a PR, he was the top 9th grader in the race and is currently ranked in the top 5 in the nation!
